Developed by Edelweiss, and published by XSEED Games and Marvelous USA. Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin is a 2D horizontal scroll action game based on the background of ancient Japan.
In Sakuna, the main stage of the whole game is an island dominated by Onis, monsters according to the Japanese legends and tales. The main character is the goddess who governs the grains and harvest. So it makes sense that the only way to level up your attributes is to grow rice and eat it. Yes, you can enhance yourself by literally eating rice and other grains. For this unique mechanic, Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin has a fully detailed grow-and-harvest progress in the game. It’s a complete simulation of traditional rice growing in Japan. This mechanic includes planting, cultivation, harvesting, and other processes. Obviously, the developers tried their best to put it into a video game.
Meanwhile, Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin also contains highly influent combats with attack combos. It actually reminds me of Oboro Murasama, a classic PSV 2D horizontal scroll game by Vanillaware. They both have a similar graphic style and the same ancient Japan background. Oboro Murasama has a simpler but deep combat mechanic, it’s easy to learn but hard to master. As for the Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin, it provides you a lot of different farming tools as weapons, and it has more other stuff to support the direct combats, like a flying raincoat.
Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin will be released on 11.November.2020, Steam will be its first lunching platform.
